About Cleartext
What Cleartext is, how an answer is built and verified, and who owns it.
Updated
Cleartext is a reference of security answers. Each page answers one question, starts with a summary of 60 words or fewer, cites the primary sources behind it, and shows when it was last verified and by whom.
What you’ll find here #
- Questions: one canonical answer per question, with the evidence, what it means for banks, fintechs and developers, and a changelog.
- Comparisons: side-by-side tables with a verdict, for decisions such as SMS OTP versus passkeys.
- Checklists: step-by-step procedures, such as responding to a SIM swap or patching a KEV entry.
- Reference data: a regulation tracker, KEV-listed CVEs and a glossary, with downloads.
What we don’t do #
We don’t publish news, opinion or vendor rankings. We don’t accept payment to change an answer. When we don’t know something, the page says so.
Who is behind it #
Cleartext is owned by [OWNER ENTITY], which has a financial interest in a company in the authentication market. Read ownership and funding and the verification policy before relying on anything here.
